Growth. Resilience. Insight. Truth. That’s GRIT.
Where Elite Athletes Get Real.
GRIT: Growth. Resilience. Insight. Truth.
Athletes have grit and therapy requires grit.
I love working with elite athletes because by nature, they are some of the most dedicated, determined, motivated and hard-working people there are, and these traits are integral to the therapy process. Just as these characteristics help on the rink, court or field, they help in building “grit”.
Maybe you have no idea where to begin, or you feel as if you have already tried everything and nothing has really worked. Whichever the case may be, throughout the counselling process we'll work together to navigate whatever challenges you’re faced with, and facilitate further growth, resilience, insight and truth.
I'll keep it 100% real: I'm professional, but I curse (a lot)! I offer an empathic, non-judgmental ear, but I'm also not afraid to call you out and challenge you when needed! If you're looking for a quiet therapist who simply nods and murmurs, I'm not the one for you (and that’s okay!). But if you're looking for someone to truly care about you, I've got you!
I know the thought of attending therapy can be scary, but let me show you that therapy really doesn't have to be all that different from a deep conversation with a trusted friend (but one with education and the proper training to help you!). Message me and we'll team up. #DoTheWork #FeelTheResults! Let’s get our asses to work!
Grit isn’t born; it’s built - in silence, under pressure, over time.
CBT is a short-term, goal-oriented therapy treatment that takes a hands-on, practical approach to problem-solving. CBT focuses on the thoughts, images, beliefs and attitudes that a person holds (i.e. their "cognitive processes") and how these processes affect their emotions and behaviour.
Through CBT, the therapist and client work together to identify and change unhelpful patterns of thinking and/or behaving that underlie his/her difficulties, ultimately changing the way that he or she feels.
"Once you replace negative thoughts with positive ones, you'll start having positive results." ~ Willie Nelson
Narrative therapy offers a respectful, non-judgmental, and non-blaming approach to counselling that views people as the experts in their own lives. It is an approach that focuses on the stories that we tell ourselves, and together, the therapist and client explore these stories that they have about their lives and relationships, the effects of them, and how they might be rewritten.
"It’s never too late to be whoever you want to be. Live a life that you’re proud of, and if you find that you’re not, have the strength to start over again and rewrite your story." ~ Adapted from F. Scott Fitzgerald
Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) is a therapy that concentrates on finding practical solutions for current challenges and exploring an individual's hope(s) for the future. "Quicker" resolution of a client's problems is the aim of this type of therapy.
The SFBT method takes the approach that you likely already know (maybe deep down) what you need to do to improve your own life and with the appropriate coaching and questioning you are capable of finding the best solutions for you.
"All you need is the plan, the road map, and the courage to press on to your destination." ~ Earl Nightingale
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences.
EMDR therapy shows that the mind can, in fact, heal from psychological trauma much as the body recovers from physical trauma. When you cut your hand, your body works to close the wound. If a foreign object or repeated injury irritates the wound, it festers and causes pain. Once the block is removed, healing resumes. EMDR therapy demonstrates that a similar sequence of events occurs with mental processes.
The brain’s information processing system naturally moves toward mental health. If the system is blocked or imbalanced by the impact of a disturbing event, the emotional wound can cause intense suffering. Once the block is removed, healing can resume.
Using the detailed protocols and procedures learned in EMDR therapy training sessions, clinicians help clients to activate their brain's natural healing processes.
"Open your eyes; look within. Are you satisfied with the life you are living?" ~ Bob Marley
