Mental health professionals are trained to provide alternative perspectives, listen without judgment or criticism, and refrain from advice-giving. Furthermore, we are qualified to teach you new strategies and skills specific to your unique challenges and situation. Finally, we are legally bound by confidentiality, and therefore, your privacy is of the utmost importance.
Each session is unique and individualized to a client's specific needs, however, a common session format is as follows:
1) Brief check-in to see how the previous week has gone
2) Review the therapeutic goals that were collaboratively set during the initial appointment
3) Client identifies any specific issues that he/she would like to address during the session
4) Collaboratively problem-solve and suggest helpful strategies and/or interventions
5) Address some potential "next steps" to be implemented in the time before the next session
Unfortunately, it is difficult to predict how many sessions will be needed to help you meet your therapeutic goals. Each client comes from a unique set of circumstances and the duration of therapy is dependent on many interrelated factors (i.e., presenting concerns, responsiveness to interventions, level of motivation and commitment to the therapy process, frequency of appointments, etc.).
The majority of clients attend bi-weekly therapy sessions, however, sessions can absolutely be booked on an "as needed" basis. There are no requirements or expectations regarding frequency, and each client needs to do what works best for him or her!
Unfortunately, psychotherapy is not covered by OHIP. However, many insurance plans and Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs) do offer either full or partial coverage for Registered Psychotherapists.
It is advisable to check with your employer or insurance company regarding mental health benefits.
The following are some questions to ask your insurance provider in order to determine your level of coverage:
I am currently able to accept payment via credit card, and/or email money transfers.
I would ask that you please try to provide 12 hours notice if you are unable to attend a scheduled appointment. Cancellation of a booked appointment may be done via text, or email.
I look forward to meeting you, hearing your story, and working with you to navigate whatever challenges you’re facing!
